Megan Loveland - Dixie High School - Track
Megan Loveland placed 1st in the Dixie Invitational,Desert Hills Invite And Red Rock Invite in the past 3 weeks. Her PR of 121'6" in the javelin puts her as the top 4A Girl thrower in the state. She will compete in the BYU Invitational this week which will combine all classes plus some girls from other western states. Awesome job Megan!

Jake Brown - Snow Canyon High School - Baseball
Last week vs Pine View Jake went 4-4 with 3 homeruns! in the 11-2 win to give them a big 4A, region 9 win. Jake has also been great behind the plate for the warriors. Way to go Jake!

Kendall Haskill - Dixie High School - Baseball
Dixie is 4-0 after big region start on Friday. Kendall gave up just 4 hits and 1 walk.
Kendall has been a nice ace for the Flyers this year with a ERA below 4.00. Nice work Kendall!

Corey Edwards - Hurricane High School - Baseball
Corey has pitched very well and has helped himself out with clutch hitting. He has helped Hurricane compete against the tough region 9. 35 strikeouts in 5 starts, hitting .421, 4 dbls and 5 rbi w/ 11 runs scored. Great job Corey!

Mitzi Gates - Snow Canyon High School - Softball
Mitzi is having an incredible start to the season hitting over .400 with 13 rbi, 6 dbls and a home run! She is a sophmore catcher and people have only stolen a handful of bases against her. She has helped the lady warriors get in the thick of the region 9 race. Great job Mitzi!

Cole Wilstead - Pine View High School - Baseball
This weeks athlete of the week is Pine View's 1st baseman Cole Wilstead...
Cole is a senior and is hitting over .650 and went 3 for 3 with a walk in the 9-7 region 9 win over hurricane last friday night. He is committed to UNLV but probably with continued success could even be drafted after the season.

Elliot won the week's team award "Quality of Battin"... hitting .458 with two homeruns and helping the warriors to an 8-0 start! Nice work Elliot!

Amy Harris - Snow Canyon High School - Basketball
Despite a nagging knee injury and pain, Sophomore point guard Amy Harris averaged 13 (12.55) points per game for Snow Canyon. Nice work Amy!

Swensen controlled the paint and scored 19 points to lead the Flyers to a win over Snow Canyon and a 4A playoff berth. Nice one Walker!

Tyler Ott - Desert Hills High School - Basketball
Tyler has been a consistent scorer for Desert Hills this year and has come up with big baskets all year. This week he helped spark his team with a MONSTER dunk that had the other team talking about it after the game. Tyler only had 10 pts, but also had 4 rebounds and lead the team with 5 assists and 3 steals. Way to go Tyler!

Brian Scott - Hurricane High School -Wrestling
Brian continues to be one of the best student atheletes in the state. He tore through the 3A state wrestling tournament and brought home the 215 lb state title as a junior!

Tanner Atkin - Desert Hills High School - Basketball
Tanner is possibly the most undervalued basketball player in region 9! In the last 4 games he is averaging 15 points and had the OT game winner in a 1 point win over Dixie. He works hard in the classroom and on the court. He is a big reason the Thunder are 7-1 in region 9 play so far. Tanner is a 3 tool player & definitely worthy of the athlete of the week every week! But this past week he is probably playing the best basketball of his career, he is a lunch pail type kid that will go far in sports and in life! Way to go Tanner!

Boston had 15 points and 9 rebounds in a big region 9 win over Cedar High! Way to go Boston!

Tanner has worked his way into a really good wrestler. He got invited to the All star duals this past week and pinned Zach Brinkerhoff of Altamont in the 215 wieght class. Nice work Tanner!

Ryan Collins - Dixie High School - Basketball
Ryan Collins led the flyers to their first Page, AZ tourney title in 16 years and was named MVP, averaging 17 points per game. He also leads region 9 in scoring this season.

Ben led the Warriors balanced attack in their win over Enterprise with 12 points on November 23. Great job Ben!

Weston Yardley - Hurricane High School - Football
Weston had a great game against Juan Diego including a 34 yd td reception. It was probably his most complete game all year. Great offense, defense and special teams. Great job Weston!

McCrae Vaifanua - Hurricane High School - Football
McCrae had 2 key interceptions and a sack in the 2nd quarter alone, helping lift the Tiger's defense to disrupt the wishbone of Delta. He also caught a key pass. McCrae is one of the spiritual leaders of this team (according to coach Homer,) he had a great semifinal performance in the Hurricane win over Delta and definitely deserves the award!

Taylor Murphey - Snow Canyon High School - Volleyball
Taylor , as senior at Snow Canyon, is a senior that has been an integral part of not just this state title, but the last couple of titles as the Lady Warriors now have 5 straight titles. Taylor had 8 kills in the 4A championship game against Dixie and was named to the all-tournament team.

Brooke led Desert Hills to a 3rd Place finish at State and was also named to the All-Tournament Team Nice work Brooke!

Trevor Thompson - Pine View High School - Cross Country
Trevor just took 1st in the 4A State Cross Country Championships at Sugar House Park last Wed. in SLC, UT. This also vaulted his team to #1 in the State also in 4A. Not only that, but Pine View has been ranked #13 nationally by ESPN-Rise.

Morgan the #1 player for Desert hills won in straight sets and took state! She helped Desert Hills 3-peat as a team! Great job!

Mike is a team player on a team that truly has doesn't know the meaning of superstar. They all go out there and do their job,and Mike did his job on both sides of the football all season & vs snow canyon he had 168 total yards and a td, plus a number of tackles on defense. Mike Needham is very deserving of the athlete of the week award!

McCoy has already won back to back individual state titles andhelped the Flyers dominate the state in golf with 5 in row. McCoy has won
all 5 region tournaments this season so far and is averaging a 69, to lead
the flyers and stay on pace for another title run!

Jerom Healey - Hurricane High School - Football
Jerom had a great game versus the Flyers Friday night, putting up 3 tds rushing for 169 yards on just 12 carries, he also caught 3 passes for another 66 yards an another score. He is the leader of a very talented group of runners at hurricane who all push each other. Slade Moyle - Enterprise High School - Football
Slade is one of the most unheralded players in the state and last friday he had his hand in 9 tds! 6 passing and 3 running with runs of 60, 40, and 33 yards as the wolves pounded out a 74- 30 win!Acceleration Athlete of the week: #2
Tara Hansen - Virgin Valley High School - Golf
Tara has straight A's, she's in the Honor's Society, she is part of the Drill Team, Golf State Champion, Swim Team Regional Qualifier, you name it, she can do it! Tara is so level headed with the funnest personality. She drives 200 yards with an iron and even farther with a driver. She may not live right in St. George but feels a part of that community. Tara Hansen, VVHS Girls Golf Zone Champion, definitely Athlete of the Week.

Autumn Shipp - Snow Canyon High School - Soccer
During the girls soccer trip up North for 3 pre-season games, Autumn was the anchor of the defensive unit. Her effort and leadership lead to a record over the weekend of 2-1. Autumn along with her devensive teammates contributed to a great start to the season for the warrior soccer girls. Autumn is an excellent example of leadership through example with her dedication and hard work.

Garrett Moss - Desert Hills High School - Baseball
Making his first varsity start in left field for Desert Hills, sophomore, Garrett Moss, debuting in the first round of the 3A state playoffs, helped lead the Thunder to blowout wins over Union and Grantsville. In the games, Moss had two triples, a double and reached base every time he stepped to the plate. He also knocked home three runs and scored twice himself.Acceleration Athlete of the week: #17
Maggie Nikolaus - Snow Canyon High School - Baseball
Maggie Nikolaus tossed a two-hit shutout and had a home run in the win for Snow Canyon against Cedar and pitched a shutout for the Warriors on their Senior Night against the Tigers.Acceleration Athlete of the week: #16

Clint had 3 stolen bases and triple in win over Snow Canyon and scored the winning run vs Hurricane last week.

Josh Harris - Desert Hills High -Soccer
Josh Harris had a serious accident (head injury/serious concussion) at the start of the season and was not going to play this year on the soccer team. He has made great progress in getting healthy over the last couple months and has been able to play in the last 2 games. He scored a goal against rival Pineview on Tuesday to help get us the 4-1 victory. Josh is a great example of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.Acceleration Athlete of the week: #14

Michael Kleiner - Snow Canyon Soccer Goalkeeper
Michael Kleiner is the backup Varsity goalkeeper for Snow Canyon. The reason why he played the whole game was because the starter was out for health reasons. In his relief, not only did he help snow canyon win 1-0 against Cedar. He had 2 breakaway saves where it was him and the forward one on one and we blocked both shots and many others during the game. He was extremely fun to watch and that was in a relief role!

Bailey Bundy - Dixie High School Basketball
Bailey had a great 7 days of playing for Dixie High basketball team. She had a combined 25 pts and 17 rebounds against Canyon View, Cedar and Pine View. She was 11 for 14 from the free throw line and Dixie won all three games. Bailey hit a 15 foot shot at the end of the game against Canyon View and two big free throws at the end of the game against Cedar. She did awesome!

Led the Thunder to 2 over-time wins last week hitting big shots and averaging 16 points per game!

Tesia Swaydan - Desert Hills High Swimmer
At the Region 9 swimming tournament, Tesia swam the 200 Freestyle Relay (they placed 2nd), the 100 Butterfly (she placed 2nd), the 500 Freestyle (she placed 2nd) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (they placed 1st). Just swimming all of these events within a 3 hour period is an accomplishment. The Desert Hill girls and boys swim team won the Region 9 title. For the first time in the last 24 years, a team other than Cedar was named Region 9 champions.

Jalen Weaver - Desert Hills High wrestler
Jalen has placed 4th place out of 64 (at 160 lbs) at the Rocky Mountain Rumble (Largest tournament in the mountain west area). Led the entire tournament in pins with 6. Has a record of 35-4 and is undefeated in Region 9. Is presently ranked 3rd in the state in all classes at 160 lbs.
